The Laura and John Arnold Foundation (LJAF) is a private foundation whose core objective is to improve the lives of individuals by strengthening our social, governmental, and economic systems.

Length: Paid Full Internship, Spring/Summer 2018 

Location: Washington, D.C.  

The Results-Driven Government team at the Laura and John Arnold Foundation is working to make state and local government more effective, efficient, and fair.

This spring, working closely with the Director of Results-Driven Government, the RDG Intern will conduct research and support communications and engagement with RDG stakeholders, including: cities, counties, and states; academic institutions, non-profits, and other stakeholder groups. The ideal candidate should have experience or interest in one or more areas: government/public policy, philanthropy, civic data and technology. This internship is a unique opportunity to gain experience and insight into philanthropy, local government operations, and the role of evidence and data in policy-making.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Support communications and relationships with organizations and local governments;
  • As directed by the RDG team, develop presentations, communications, talking points, and memos supporting RDG strategy to internal and external audiences;
  • Research and document state and local government best practice and investment opportunities;
  • Support the review of proposals, project plans, and budgets;
  • Support meetings, workshops, and special/rapid-response projects, as needed.

Essential Skills, Experience, & Qualities:

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Detail-oriented, with strong research and analysis skills
  • Flexible and comfortable managing multiple projects in a fast-paced environment
  • Microsoft Office (Word, Powerpoint, and Excel) or Google Docs
  • (Optional) Keynote, data visualization or design
