Program Manager
Executives' Alliance for Boys and Men of Color

Description

The Program Manager will help coordinate the programmatic efforts of this fast paced, growing network. The person in this position, along with a second Program Manager, will have the primary day-to-day contact with the network, including coordinating multiple Collective Action Tables (CATs)—issue- and strategy-based working groups that function as learning communities for the staff and CEOs of Alliance member foundations, as well as platforms for collective action. Each CAT has a consultant with expertise in relevant subject matter. The Program Manager will report to the Alliance’s Advisory Committee, which delegates authority as needed. Responsibilities will include:

Member Services and Support

  • Serve as a day-to-day point of contact for members
  • Field and respond to inquiries from current and prospective members via E-mail, phone, and/or in-person meetings as necessary
  • Assist in the orientation and on-boarding process for new members

Collective Action Table Support

  • Serve as primary support for the Alliance’s CATs
  • Assist with overall program design and implementation, including strategic and policy matters in various issue areas
  • Ensure CATs work reflects fidelity to the Alliance’s strategic framework
  • Provide strategic guidance and support for CAT co-conveners and subject-matter experts/consultants, working with them to:
  • Develop short-/ long-term work plans for CATs
  • Create a research agenda relevant to each CAT and the Alliance overall
  • Help identify “tipping point” issues and “big bet” strategies for impact
  • Manage stakeholder relations
  • Develop opportunities for collaborations to advance Alliance goals
  • Ensure connectivity between and among CATs
  • Coordinate workflow and production of CAT consultants, including:
  • Lead/facilitate monthly co-convener strategy calls
  • Coordinate bi-monthly CAT meetings
  • Lead/facilitate bi-monthly calls with all CAT co-conveners and consultants
  • Coordinate ad hoc strategy and planning sessions
  • Facilitate regular convenings for all CAT co-conveners and consultants
  • Field requests from members

Internal Network Communications

  • Manage and develop original content for all formal correspondence to the full Alliance membership (mail, E-mail, newsletter, periodic updates,
  • Assist with design and development of original content for major publications, including annual reports

Consultant Management

Assist with coordination of consultancies, including:

  • CAT consultants
  • Publications & Design
  • Research

Meeting & Event Planning

  • Provide event planning and on-site event management support for major calls, webinars and in-person convenings and meetings, including:
    • Webinars and semi-annual membership meetings
    • Occasional in-person CAT meetings; and
    • Occasional ad hoc meetings

Meeting Documentation

  • Note-taking and meeting documentation for all CAT meetings, co-convener meetings, consultant meetings, team meetings, etc. (along with Program Associate, Operations Associate, and others)

General

  • Keep abreast of national dialogue/ initiatives related to boys & men of color
  • Participate in regular internal meetings w/ other Alliance staff & consultants
  • Participate in external meetings w/ Alliance partner organizations as needed
  • Travel as needed (likely extensive)

Requirements

The Program Manager must be an empathetic, resourceful, and highly responsible individual with a high degree of professionalism, a strong work ethic, and a flexible and collaborative spirit. Ability to navigate and perform at a high level through ambiguous and dynamic contexts is essential, along with the ability to coordinate strategic processes and strong project management skills. A commitment to racial justice, intellectual curiosity, and ongoing professional development and growth are essential. The ideal candidate would have experience in the philanthropic sector (either in grantmaking, administration or overall philanthropic strategy), project management, member services, meeting planning, workshop design and presentation, implementation of strategic frameworks, designing and executing program components, and managing details within a demanding, fast-paced environment.

Other requirements:

  • Master’s degree or higher (or equivalent)
  • Experience with program design and implementation, coordination of multiple workgroups, and public policy on relevant subject matter
  • At least four years’ experience working with a foundation
  • Advanced knowledge in at least one of four CAT areas (School Discipline and Climate, Place-Based Strategy, Narrative Change, and Justice Reform/ Public Safety)
  • Experience with external communications and member-based organizations/member services
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to meet deadlines and prioritize multiple assignments
  • Comprehensive knowledge of computer software applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Highly organized, responsible, even-tempered, and extremely detail-oriented, with high standards of performance
  • Personable, engaging presence, with diplomacy, tact and good humor
  • Willingness to take initiative to solve problems
  • Familiarity with funders and stakeholders in the Boys and Men of Color (BMoC) field

Benefits

Starting Salary Range:

$75,000 – $90,000, depending upon relevant experience.
