Manager, Criminal Justice Reform
Chan Zuckerberg Initiative

The Chan Zuckerberg Initiative is dedicated to advancing human potential and promoting equal opportunity through technology, grantmaking, impact investing, policy, and advocacy work. We look for bold ideas — regardless of structure and stage — and help them scale by pairing world-class engineers with subject matter experts to build tools that accelerate the pace of social progress.

We engage directly in the communities we serve because no one understands how to address our society’s challenges better than those who live them everyday. These partners help us identify problems and opportunities, learn fast and iterate toward our audacious goals for the next century. We strive to be humble, empathetic and scrappy life-long learners who work collaboratively to develop community-centered solutions.

We believe that high-performing teams include people from different backgrounds and experiences who can challenge each other’s assumptions with fresh perspectives. To that end, the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative actively seeks a diverse pool of applicants including those from historically marginalized groups — women, people with disabilities, people of color, formerly incarcerated people, people who are lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and/or gender nonconforming, first and second generation immigrants, and people from low-income families.

CZI is committed to engaging with affected communities to ensure that they are at the center of their own solution-making, at every step of the process, from problem definition to solution execution. Advocacy and engagement span across our science, education, and justice and opportunity projects to build programs that empower local communities from the bottom-up. We’re looking for a dynamic and experienced Manager with a background in Elections and Issue Advocacy to drive projects across and within the Criminal Justice Reform space.

The Manager of Criminal Justice Reform will work alongside key stakeholders and engineers within CZI and our partners to build out project plans, drive execution, report progress, and assist with internal communications simultaneously for multiple high-intensity projects. The ideal candidate is energetic, organized, detail-oriented, a problem solver, an excellent communicator, and can adjust to the changing demands of the job.

  • Oversee scoping, development, escalation, and sometimes deprecation of an overall portfolio of campaign and advocacy projects within the criminal justice reform space
  • Drive the planning, development, and execution of multiple high stakes and fast-moving existing criminal justice reform projects, establishing and overseeing a broad variety of work-streams within each project including: creative strategies, grantmaking strategies, partner engagement, technology product development, policy development, and advocacy strategies
  • Represent CZI in outward-facing relationships with partner organizations and philanthropies as projects require

  • 8+ years experience successfully driving time-sensitive, cross-functional projects in electoral and issue advocacy contexts
  • Experience with and passion for the criminal justice reform space
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Must be able to collaborate and work with a diverse team across various geographies
  • Strong time management skills with ability to multi-task across projects
  • Exceptional relationship-building skills, organizational awareness, and ability to persuade others to accomplish project objectives
  • Experience working with highly technical staff and highly grassroots/community-based staff alike

The Chan Zuckerberg Initiative is a new kind of philanthropic organization dedicated to advancing human potential and promoting equal opportunity through world class engineering, grantmaking, impact investing, policy, and advocacy work. Initial areas of focus include supporting science through basic biomedical research and education through personalized learning.
