BJA just published a job announcement to hire three Policy Advisors (Grant Program Specialists) in its Policy Office.  One will be on the Corrections and Reentry team. This new team member will help to support a team that oversees implementation of the Second Chance Act, the Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA) and the Justice Reinvestment Initiative.

 

Through this work the team supports evaluation, identification and implementation of what works to improve correctional practice as well as education, employment, treatment and recovery outcomes for people reentering communities from jails and prisons. The team supports hundreds of communities through grants, training and technical assistance to review their corrections systems, build collaborative partnerships, and improve safety, service delivery, and system outcomes. The team also manages strategies to improve conditions of confinement including sexual safety, smart criminal justice reform, and special projects to inform and improve corrections training and officer wellness. This includes the PREA Management Office which has oversight of all statutory and regulatory measures to prevent, detect and prosecute sexual harassment and violence in confinement facilities.

 

Two additional positions will be hired for the Tribal and Drug Courts team which oversees BJA’s courts and justice system work such as defense, wrongful conviction and Sixth Amendment projects; diversion, alternatives to incarceration and problem solving courts.
