Position: Criminal Justice Manager

LJAF’s Criminal Justice Initiative aims to dramatically improve the U.S. criminal justice system through projects that enhance public safety, treat fairly the individuals and communities affected by crime and the justice system, and ensure that public resources are put to their best use. Our team funds research, supports innovative pilot programs, and helps to bring successful policy changes to scale nationally. We are seeking a Criminal Justice Manager to help research, analyze, develop, and manage high-impact projects in the field of criminal justice, with a focus on assessing potential for data collection and analysis, study design, policy evaluation, and piloting and evaluating the effectiveness of interventions. The Criminal Justice Manager will report directly to the Director of Research.
Core Responsibilities:
- Researching, developing, evaluating, and tracking potential policy areas and projects within the Criminal Justice team’s focus areas
- Identifying, developing, and presenting potential grant opportunities that are aligned with the Criminal Justice Initiative’s strategies to the Criminal Justice Initiative’s leadership team and LJAF’s Board of Directors
- Managing and tracking grants approved by LJAF’s Board, which will include working with grantees and partners to develop strategic plans, establish performance metrics, and monitor progress and impact
- Drafting documents, such as funding proposals, issue briefs, research summaries, and annual reports, for LJAF’s Board, Vice President and Executive Vice President of Criminal Justice, and other members of the Criminal Justice team
Essential Skills, Experience, and Abilities:
- A minimum of three years of work relevant experience, preferably in positions involving research and project management responsibilities
- Excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to communicate with high-level stakeholders and experts in various fields
- Exceptional organization skills and ability to work simultaneously on multiple projects
- Capacity to thrive in an entrepreneurial, fast-paced work environment
- Ability to understand and analyze complex policy and research questions

Required Education:
- Undergraduate Degree required; advanced degree(s) strongly preferred in a relevant field such as public policy, public or behavioral health policy, criminal justice, law, or economics
