COMMUNICATIONS ASSOCIATE

Advancement Project seeks a creative, energetic, and committed professional to serve as Communications Associate. Alongside a team of communications professionals, advocates and seasoned racial justice lawyers, the communications associate would implement key strategies amplifying the work of Advancement Project and grassroots partners. This position is based in Washington, D.C.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • A demonstrable zeal for and a nuanced understanding of racial justice
  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, political science or related field preferred.
  • 1-3 years of experience in communications preferred (campaign experience helpful)
  • Exceptional writing skills
  • Strong background in racial justice and social change
  • Ability to develop collateral materials
  • Exceptional attention to detail
  • A high level of organization skills
  • Familiarity with Excel, PowerPoint and other standard software
  • Results-focused approach and commitment to going the extra mile
  • Media relations experience with proven results and experience working with reporters
  • Experience developing and editing high-quality written materials, including:  Fact sheets, talking points, statements, etc.

 

SUMMARY OF DUTIES

Under the direct supervision of the Managing Director for Communications, duties for the Communications Associate include:

  • Managing creative, detailed communication efforts
  • Gathering and produce journalistic content, audio, video, digital and written, for various formats.
  • Writing op-eds, press releases, talking points and other press materials
  • Develop press lists and clip files
  • Forge and maintain relationships with reporters
  • Perform other related duties as assigned
  • Assist with production and editing of organizational reports
  • Assist with digital strategy
  • Support Advancement Project racial justice partners with communications strategy
