Collective Action for Safe Spaces
Collective Action for Safe Spaces (CASS) is a grassroots organization that works to empower people in the DC metropolitan area to build a community free from public sexual harassment and assault.
CASS seeks to hire a full-time Deputy Director to partner with and support the Executive Director (ED) to chart CASS’s future growth and strategic response to an ever-increasing demand for the organization’s services. The Deputy Director will have both internal and external facing responsibilities, ranging from client and project management to administration and human capital. Specifically, the Deputy Director will manage the organization’s grant-writing, operations, and administration while helping to sustain and grow programs. The Deputy Director will report to the CASS Board of Directors (BOD).
Role and Responsibilities
- Leading and growing organization’s foundation support, with assistance from ED, BOD, and volunteers;
- Managing organization’s operations and administration, including managing contracts with clients, expense tracking, and administering volunteer staff satisfaction surveys;
- Working as the liaison to the accountant and reporting on monthly expenses;
- Co-leading Safe Bar Collective work in collaboration with ED through management of training requests, invoicing, and MOUs with participants;
- Facilitating and coordinating presentations and trainings, including but not limited to Safe Bar Collective trainings, as needed;
- Managing and supporting the volunteer data and policy teams in producing quarterly reports and evaluating programmatic impact;
- Managing and supporting the policy team in grassroots organizing to community-based, non-criminal solutions;
- Representing the organization to the public, on key coalitions, DC Council, key stakeholders, and business partners;
- Collaborates with the ED on fundraising and donor management, business development, and partnership activities;
- Collaborates with the ED on program activities including outreach, volunteer coordination, and partnership development, as well as marketing, media relations, artist/vendor relations, public relations, and issues management activities;
- Co-manage interns and fellows;
- Full delegated authority to act on behalf of the ED in her absence;
- Other duties as requested by the ED and/or BOD.
- 5 plus years of relevant experience in a nonprofit organization, foundation, or government agency required;
- Demonstrated comfort assuming leadership roles;
- Proven track record of successful fundraising;
- Experience with data organization;
- Facilitation/presentation experience;
- Success in roles requiring execution of multiple tasks while responding to multiple priorities;
- Demonstrated ability to build and maintain relationships with a wide array of people – junior and senior, for-profit and nonprofit, and from diverse backgrounds;
- Excellent writing skills;
- Outstanding communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills;
- Proven ability to work with efficiency, flexibility, and good humor;
- Ability to exercise tact and diplomacy in organizational settings;
- Self-starter and self disciplined – ability to work independently in a non-traditional office setting.
