Overview of the position:

The Campaign for the Fair Sentencing of Youth is growing! Founded in 2009, the CFSY has continued to expand its reach and impact over the past decade, including to create opportunities for formerly incarcerated youth to thrive as adults and lead in their communities. As our work increases, so does our need for key strategic management of our growing major donor base, our growing repertoire of events, and our engagement with strategic private sector partners. The Major Gifts and Events Manager is a new position designed to help cultivate the organizations’ major donor relationships, and oversee the variety of fundraising and other events the organization hosts throughout the year. This is a key position which will liaise regularly with the organization’s leadership, external partners, event planning consultants and others to ensure the organization continuously develops ambitious fundraising and relationship building plans and benchmarks, and meets its goals.

The Major Gifts and Events Manager’s primary responsibilities include cultivating and stewarding relationships with potential and existing major donors; helping develop and manage a range of communications including personal correspondence and large-scale campaigns; creating innovative recognition and other acknowledgement opportunities for donors and strategic partners; and serving as point person on a range of events, in partnership with other organizational staff and event planning consultants. The Major Gifts and Events Manager will also help inform and implement the organization’s broader fundraising strategy; assist with data management, tracking and report generation; and serve as the liaison between the organization and the Board of Directors Development committee.

The Major Gifts and Events Manager reports to the Director of Strategic Partnerships; and works in close collaboration with the Development department, the Communications department and the Executive Director to continuously inform, facilitate, and improve the work of the organization.

 

Qualifications:

Must Have: 

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred, or in place of a degree, 5+ years of work experience in a position that required project creation and management, critical thinking, and relationship-building with diverse stakeholders;
  • Minimum three years experience in a development role, preferably in nonprofit organizations; relevant for-profit sales experience will be considered
  • Minimum three years experience developing and implementing a range of events (such as conferences, convenings, high-profile meetings, fundraising dinners, and other special events), including soliciting sponsorships, donations and in-kind contributions;
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively manage and support complex projects and work tasks, with multiple stakeholders, goals, timelines and deadlines
  • Demonstrated ability to think strategically, and set and meet project goals and metrics of success;
  • Extraordinarily organized, detail-oriented and able to multitask;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
  • Demonstrated ability to think outside the box, be creative and negotiate diverse stakeholder preferences and needs; and
  • Experience with Google Apps and Microsoft Office; CRM software; email and online marketing software, giving/donation apps

Nice to Have: 

    • Experience developing and managing department and/or large project level budgets;
    • Demonstrated understanding of how to work and negotiate with vendors, contractors, and event planners;

 

  • Experience with project management, video conferencing, and webinar software
