“The disenfranchisement of Black Americans continues in Florida as formerly incarcerated people are required to settle debts before they can cast a ballot to vote. Florida’s new governor Ron DeSantis, a far-right Republican, signed SB 7066, a law requiring formerly incarcerated people to pay outstanding, court-ordered fees, fines, or victim restitution to the ststae before they can vote. In doing so, analysts say, DeSantis instantly disqualified some 1.4 million voters.”
