Three Right on Crime Signatories Offer Support for OH Forfeiture Reform Bill
Columbus Dispatch
December 1, 2016

“As the Ohio legislature prepares to pass major legislation aimed at reforming the state’s dismal civil forfeiture laws, three of Right on Crime’s signatories signed a letter to state leaders in support of the initiative.

“Civil forfeiture is a tool of law enforcement whereby the ill-gotten fruit of suspected criminal activity can be seized and repurposed by government to combat would-be future criminal activity. This legitimate function of law enforcement has become a veritable Godzilla, as even innocent people— those who have never been convicted in court of having committed a crime—have nonetheless had property taken from them under forfeiture practices that have grown far beyond their original scope and purpose.”
