Five Pennsylvania state prisons are being considered for closure

“In a bid to trim Pennsylvania’s $1.7 billion structural deficit, state officials have placed Schuylkill County’s State Correctional Institute at Frackville on a list of prisons that may be closed in 2017.

“The plan, announced Friday, calls for the Department of Corrections to close two prisons from a list of five to pare the state’s $2 billion prison budget. It will announce its decision in three weeks.”
