“Death investigations, drug trafficking behind bars and alleged assaults all haunt the Alaska Department of Corrections, but now the head of DOC is starting a new internal investigation unit to bring accountability from within.
“Commissioner Dean Williams is reallocating resources within the department to begin the state’s first Professional Conduct Unit (PCU) to follow up on internal complaints. He said he’s modeling the new PCU after successful programs found in Wyoming and California, adding that Alaska may be the last state in the union without this kind of internal oversight within the corrections system.”
