Webinar: Reforming State Policy on Sentencing and Collateral Consequences
April 19, 2016 @ 11:00 am - 12:00 pm EDT

The United States is the world’s leader in incarceration with 2.2 million people in the nation’s prisons and jails — a 500 percent increase over the last 40 years. Changes in sentencing law and policy, not changes in crime rates, explain most of this increase. Efforts are underway to address the nation’s punitive sentencing policies.

Join The Sentencing Project in a discussion of current efforts to reform state policy on sentencing and collateral consequences.

This webinar will highlight state activity in Delaware to scale back the state’s three-strikes law, a recent victory in Georgia modifying the lifetime ban on food assistance for persons with felony drug convictions, and Michigan efforts to address sentencing policy for violent offenses.

Presenters:
  • Drewry N. Fennell, Office of Delaware Governor Jack A. Markell
  • Elizabeth J. Appley, Attorney at Law, Georgia
  • Ronald Simpson-Bey, JustLeadershipUSA, Michigan
  • Nicole D. Porter, The Sentencing Project
Moderated by Jean Chung, The Sentencing Project
Tuesday, April 19, 3 p.m. EST
