The Washington Lawyers’ Committee is proud to announce that the recipient of this year’s Alfred McKenzie Award will be a group of organizations that have done extraordinary work on compassionate release during the pandemic, when many lives were at risk. Here are this year’s recipients, who worked together through the Compassionate Release Clearinghouse:
- FAMM (formerly known as Families Against Mandatory Minimums)
- National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers
- The Public Defender Service of the District of Columbia
- George Washington University Law School’s Prisoner & Reentry Clinic
- Second Look Project
- Akin Gump
- Wiley Rein
- DLA Pipier
- Sidley Austin
Mary Price, General Counsel of FAMM, will accept the award for all of the recipients. Mary has been a life-long champion for justice and has led FAMM’s work on compassionate release, clemency, and second look. Her extraordinary advocacy has contributed to the release of hundreds of men and women from incarceration.
Our annual Branton event is a time for us to celebrate the courage of our clients and the hard work of our law firm partners and staff. This year, we will be gathering online to honor our award recipients. Please join us!
