The Organizing Coordinator serves as the Hub’s main liaison to local advocates and campaigns. The Coordinator will work directly with local advocates and campaigns to support capacity building, field organizing, and strategic planning. He or she will work closely with local leaders and police reform campaigns to identify resources needed by local advocates (policy, data, communications, research, etc.) The Coordinator will work with other Hub staff to ensure that local campaigns receive technical assistance and have access to resources gathered and/or produced by the Hub and other partner organizations. The Coordinator will also be responsible for training local advocates on organizing, capacity building and development of campaign strategies. He or she will be charged with supporting local advocates in identifying potential funding sources and devising fundraising strategies. Additionally, the Organizing Coordinator will work to create connections and build bridges between local police reform campaigns across the country, ensuring that advocates are learning from and building with one another and collaborating when necessary. The Coordinator may also be involved in potential crisis response work in representing the hub in communities experiencing crises involving police misconduct.

Essential Responsibilities and Tasks 

• Serve as the main contact person with local advocates
• Work directly with local advocates to identify organizing, research, strategy, and capacity needs
• Create and/or strengthen local campaign strategies on police reform
• Support local advocates in executing campaign strategies
• Conduct organizing and advocacy training for local advocates
• Support local advocates and local organizations in identifying funding sources
• Work with other Hub staff to ensure the work of the Hub (research, communications, etc.) is driven by local needs
• Ensure inclusion of the voices of local leaders in decision making for the Hub
• Lead planning of regional or national convenings that aim to convene and train local advocates
• Create, maintain and updated landscape of existing police reform advocacy campaigns in key cities across the country
• Write and contribute to grant proposals and reports
• Represent the Hub at meetings and convenings as needed

Qualifications 

• Bachelor’s Degree in social science, sociology, public policy, criminal justice or related field; Master’s Degree is a plus but not required
• 6+ years of work experience as an organizer
• Experience working with local police reform campaigns
• Knowledge of and connection to local police reform and justice advocacy organizations and groups across the country
• A deep understanding of police reform strategies and policing issues; including police policies and practices
• A deep knowledge of local organizing strategies and campaigns
• A deep understanding of c4 and c3 advocacy campaigns
• Familiarity with foundations that invest in police reform, including potential local and regional funders
• Great written and oral communications skills
• Great professional acumen, high energy, team player and ability to multi-task and work in fast-paced, sometimes stressful environment
