Starbucks closed its doors for a day to participate in bias training after bad press over a racially charged incident in which an employee called the police on two black men who were sitting in a Philadelphia Starbucks. Since the 18th century to the present, it has been a common occurrence in the lives of black and brown people in the United States to have their existence challenged by white people and the police in public spaces.
