The Vera Institute of Justice (Vera) invites jurisdictions to join us in taking a historic step for girls by leaving girls’ incarceration in the past. Our Initiative to End Girls’ Incarceration is accepting letters of interest from juvenile justice agencies seeking to participate in a jurisdiction-wide initiative to eliminate the confinement of girls and lesbian, gay, bisexual, gender non-conforming, and trans (LGB/TGNC) youth in female units of their juvenile justice system. Vera will work with selected jurisdictions for at least one year to develop and implement a strategic plan for eliminating the confinement of girls through improved policy, practice and programmatic approaches that work to divert girls from custody.
