November 29, 2017 @ 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm EST

Join the Urban Institute at Howard University for a special screening of Milwaukee 53206, a documentary about the zip code that incarcerates the highest percentage of black men in America. The film explores the impact of long prison terms, the challenges of reentering the community and securing a job following incarceration, and the relationships families have with their incarcerated loved ones, all in a single zip code where 62 percent of black men are serving time. Following the screening, join us for an interactive discussion on the issues and themes presented in the film and how mass incarceration affects our DC community.

Through the intimate stories of three 53206 residents, we witness the high toll that excessive jail sentencing takes on individuals and families. The film illuminates the story of people from across the United States who live with the daily effects of unjust and long jail sentences.
