Understanding Background Checks for Civil Decision-making Purposes

You are invited to an informational briefing hosted by SEARCH, The National Consortium for Justice Information and Statistics on August 31, 2016 1 p.m.–2 p.m. at 385 Russell Senate Office Building
The briefing on criminal history record background checks for civil decision0making purposes, will include decisions related to an individual’s suitability for employment, volunteer positions, and licensing.
SEARCH has an extensive history of involvement with efforts by the States and Federal Government to tackle the legal, policy, and operational aspects of criminal history background screening. SEARCH’s background check experts will pull from this experience to provide key information on:
· How criminal history records are used to make decisions that apply to tens of millions of individuals each year—including decisions that enable access to vulnerable populations, as well as sensitive locations and data
· What constitutes an official criminal history record
· The framework Congress and the States have established to govern the exchange of criminal justice information for background screening
· Solutions for efficient, affordable, and accurate background checks
SEARCH encourages Congressional, agency, and organizational staff to attend this briefing, as it will provide critical information to consider as Congress and the States deliberate improvements to background check procedures for noncriminal justice purposes.
