If you have worked in the civil legal aid or indigent defense community for any length of time, you surely know a dedicated attorney who has provided extraordinary advocacy for individual low-income clients or who has significantly advanced the cause of equal justice for individual low-income clients or low-income communities. That attorney could be a worthy winner of the Reginald Heber Smith Award (the “Reggie”).

Does your civil legal aid program have a non-attorney staff member, client board member, or volunteer who works tirelessly to achieve equal justice for low-income people? That person sounds like an ideal candidate for the 2016 Denison Ray Award (the “Denny”).

Is there a private attorney in your community who has made substantial volunteer contributions in support of the delivery of civil legal aid or indigent defense representation? Nominate him or her for this year’s Arthur von Briesen Award.

Has your legal aid or defender program had a client or board member who has given back to the community by providing service or leadership in the cause of equal justice? The 2016 Mary Ellen Hamilton Award could be in that person’s future.
