The next Human Rights Working Group Advocacy Training Series is on Wednesday, August 3, 2016 from 12:00 p.m. – 2:30 p.m. at Freedom House, 1850 M Street NW Suite 1100, Washington, D.C. 20036. Lunch will be provided.
Human rights organizations regularly work with survivors of traumatic events, torture, and conflict. How can we help survivors effectively advocate for themselves without becoming re-traumatized? How can we can conduct field research to assess a country’s programmatic needs or document human rights abuses without inflicting emotional harm? How can we recognize when we have experienced trauma in our own work, and how can we take care of ourselves?
Ann Willhoite, Clinical Advisor for Mental Health with The Center for Victims of Torture, will provide an introduction to these topics in order for participants to work more respectfully, compassionately, and effectively with survivors in human rights work.
The Advocacy Training Series for participants of the Human Rights Working Group is made possible by the generous support of Open Society Foundations
