An excerpt from The Marshall Project’s Opening Statement:
“An Unbelievable Story of Rape,” a piece by The Marshall Project (TMP) posted in December in collaboration with ProPublica, won a 2016 Pulitzer Prize in the “Explanatory Reporting” category.
It was co-authored by TMP’s Ken Armstrong, who won his fourth Pulitzer. In addition, TMP’s Tom Robbins was a finalist this year in the local reporting category for his joint work with The New York Times on accountability in New York’s prisons.
The Pulitzer Committee Monday honored other journalists for their coverage of criminal justice. John Hackworth in Charlotte Harbor, Florida, won for editorial writing for his coverage of a deadly assault on an inmate by corrections officers. Pulitzer.org
