Congress has never had a better opportunity to pass comprehensive criminal justice reforms. There is support for Republicans and Democrats, and key bills are in dire need of our democratic voting process.

As students at the University of Kentucky, we’re calling on Senator Mitch McConnell to bring the Sentencing Reform and Corrections Act up for a vote in the Senate immediately.

This bipartisan bill would reduce harsh, lengthy mandatory minimum sentences for some drug offenses, allow judges to use their discretion to sentence people below the minimum in certain cases, and help fix our broken criminal justice system.

Leaders from both sides of the aisle finally recognize that the war on drugs has failed and that harsh sentencing laws have had disastrous consequences for our communities. It?s time to fix our criminal justice system.

Ask Sen. McConnell to allow the Senate to vote on the Sentencing Reform and Corrections Act.
