The Thurgood Marshall Institute (Institute) is a multidisciplinary center within the NAACP Legal Defense Fund, Inc. (LDF). Launched in 2015, the Institute complements LDF’s traditional litigation strengths, by arming LDF with dedicated support for three critical capabilities in the fight for racial justice: research, targeted advocacy campaigns, and public education. The Institute also houses LDF’s Archives—a collection of materials chronicling the legal history of the Civil Rights Movement.
The Institute seeks an undergraduate or graduate student intern to provide research, policy, and administrative support to its Prosecutor Reform Project (PRP), under the supervision of its Manager. The PRP aims to educate African American communities on the importance of prosecutor elections to reform the criminal justice system. A key objective of this project is to provide non-partisan assistance to community partners that will enable them to lead voters in evaluating prosecutor candidates. Our assistance will focus on issues that relate to the elimination of racial discrimination from the criminal justice system. The intern will support the day-to-day management of the project and assist with the project work including policy research and analysis, grassroots outreach and engagement, content planning and development, and strategic communications.
The deadline to apply is September 13, 2019. To apply, please submit a resume and cover letter to interns@naacpldf.org, and specify in the email subject line “TMI Intern Application.”
