Stand Against Racism April 28-May 1, 2016
March 27, 2016 - April 1, 2016

Stand Against Racism is a signature campaign of YWCA USA to build community among those who work for racial justice and to raise awareness about the negative impact of institutional and structural racism in our communities. This campaign is one part of our larger national strategy to fulfill our mission of eliminating racism. In 2015, over 750 locations hosted Stand Against Racism events across 44 states.

This year’s event will run from Thursday, April 28 through Sunday, May 1, focused on the theme “On A Mission for Girls of Color.” Too often girls of color are left out of conversations about racial justice and gender equity. Public dialogue suggests that girls of color are “doing just fine” when compared with boys of color — but when we pay closer attention, we discover that girls of color are being disproportionately impacted by racism in ways that are unique to them.

How to participate:

Use this interactive web map http://standagainstracism.org/search-map

Organize your own Stand Against Racism event. The specific forum or activity is up to you — it could be a public rally or town hall meeting, a potluck dinner with your members or community partners, an inter-office gathering for your staff or board members, or a meeting with local public officials to advocate for racial justice and equity — any public or private event where  you can raise the issues and recommit yourselves and your community as you take a Stand Against Racism. All registered events will be promoted on our interactive map, however, events registered as private (not open to the public) will appear with limited details.

Joining YWCA USA at its policy briefing, “ON A MISSION for Girls of Color” to be held Thursday, April 28 from 10 am – 12 noon at the Washington DC office of Google (25 M Street NW, Suite 900, Washington, DC).
