Pitch Perfect: Where Good Ideas Go to Grow
May 4, 2016 @ 6:30 am - 8:00 am EDT

Join Advancement Project Wednesday, May 4, 2016 from 10:30 AM to 12:00 PM at Open Gov Hub on Vermont Avenue NW to share and receive best practices around pitching. As a communicator, you’ll bring a pitch you’re currently preparing to deliver or struggling to perfect. Our renowned panelists, including Jolie Doggett (The Huffington Post), Jeff Miller (The Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights), Danielle Belton (The Root), Valerie Holford (VVH Consulting), and Tomika Anderson (Visual Connections LLC) will share insight on ways to make your pitch soar. The event will include small group breakouts to ensure privacy. The person with the strongest pitch will have the opportunity to continue working with the panel on an upcoming pitch. Advancement Project will also send the winner to a writing or pitching workshop valued at $50 at the Bethesda Writer’s Center.

This workshop is a safe and welcoming space. So here’s how the event will work; first, our panelist experts will share best practices for pitching (30 Minutes). Then, we’ll break into small groups of 7-8, and you’ll share a pitch you’re working to perfect (30 Minutes). Afterwards we’ll come together to raise questions and share reflections and treasured takeaways (30 Minutes).

Your pitch can be fully sketched out in writing or shared verbally. No pitch is too large or small for this workshop. Your pitch can cover anything from a story you’re working to secure media placements for, a report you’ll soon release, or an upcoming campaign.

Your pitch must be related to an issue in social or racial justice, criminal justice reform, immigrant justice, the school-to-prison pipeline, police brutality, voting rights or environmental justice. Don’t have a pitch prepared but you’re dedicated to social and racial justice? We’d love to have you. The event is free and open to all, and light refreshments will be served.
