‘They Call Us Monsters’ Exclusive Clip: Three Young Offenders Showcase Their Quarters

Join the Campaign for the Fair Sentencing of Youth on Saturday or Sunday for the East Coast premiere of “They Call Us Monsters.”
The film by director Ben Lear takes a look at juvenile justice as it follows three men who were sentenced to prison as children. It comes as the debate continues about the appropriate ways to hold children accountable when they are convicted of serious crimes.
The film features Jarad, Juan, and Antonio, who are in prison in California and writing a movie as they await their trials. Jarad was arrested at 16 and faces 200 years to life in prison; Juan also was arrested at 16 and is facing a 90-year sentence; and Antonio, arrested one month after turning 14, faces 90 years in prison.
The film asks:  despite their crimes, do these children possess the capacity for change? Can they someday be reintegrated into society?
